It's been so long...

Wow!  Has it been really been 18 months since my last post?  That is a long time and a lot has changed since then.  Two things in particular have kept me off the blog.

First, a month after my last post, I got a job as an adjunct faculty member in a local community college district.  I've been teaching political science, mostly American politics, for the past year and a half.  It takes up a lot of time, so while I've been reading, I just haven't been able to write something for the blog in a while.

Second, I moved in and got engaged to my girlfriend.  We have been happily living together since April 2018 and learning to be a part of a relationship takes time and effort, love and a whole lot of grace.

But what hasn't changed is how I've continued to pluck away at my TBR pile, while also adding more books to it.  As per usual, the TBR pile feels like two steps forward, one step back.  However, I find myself with a little extra time this summer as I don't have any classes to teach for the first time since last year.  So, what better way to spend my summer than by restarting the blog and redoubling my efforts to update this blog more regularly than I used to.  I have updated The List! with books that have been added to my shelf since the last post and subtracted books that I have read since the last post.  For those of you who were looking forward to a particular book review, I'm sorry.  You can still catch my thoughts on certain books on my Goodreads profile.

For my Book of the Week, I am reading The House of Broken Angels by Luis Alberto Urrea, a book my fiancĂ© is particularly fond of.  For my Book of the Month, I am reading Parting the Waters: Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement 1954-1963 by Taylor Branch, which is the first volume in a three-volume history of the Civil Rights Movement.

I look forward to writing on the blog again and expanding upon what I have already written.  Don't forget to subscribe and feel free to give any suggestions on what book on The List! I should take on next or ways I can make the blog better overall.
